Kahoot!

A quick, fun way to formatively assess students! Kahoot is an app designed to quiz students in a quick, fun format. When you sign up for a FREE account, you are able to play Kahoots (quizzes) that have been created by other people who have decided to share them with others. You will also be able to create your own Kahoots to play with your class and/or share online at the Kahoot store. The Kahoot store is very valuable and easy to use! The Kahoots are classified based on subject area which makes finding relevant Kahoots super simple. Kahoot can be used through any device or tablet and through the computer!
Negatives: Using Kahoot in the classroom is a lot of fun for the students, but I have found that most of the Kahoots are very long. They often take a lot of time especially for elementary students. I recommend keeping the questions to 5-10 for elementary school students. Older students can handle a few more especially if the class times are longer. When I was teaching 2nd grade, we often only had 45 minutes to teach a lesson, have them practice, and re-mediate (see small groups) when needed.
Lesson Ideas: You have endless possibilities in the classroom with this program. You can use Kahoot as an introduction activity, as a formative “quick” check, or as a summative assessment. You can use this in a whole group setting if you have enough devices (or share devices) or in a small group setting. In the past, I have used a fun social Kahoot to introduce the program to students and that gets them hooked! They find it to be super fun even when you are playing subject specific Kahoots and you can get data from the students that you need.
This section focuses on important screens that you should know about so you can easily navigate your Kahoot account.
The next important par about this app is how you go about creating your own Kahoot. These are the steps for creating a classic "Quiz" Kahoot. You have other options that you can explore, but these are the basic steps you take to create your own quiz Kahoot.
The last section of the computer screen shots include what it would look like if you were to run a Kahoot on your screen.
The very last part of Kahoot that I want to highlight is what students will see when they are using the app during a Kahoot.
Now that you have the most important information, you are ready to start using Kahoot in the classroom! Good luck using this app and let me know how it is going!
